What is SIFE?
SIFE is a student organization at the University of Michigan – Dearborn. We promote education and community involvement using business principles to change lives and change the world. The SIFE motto is “A head for business. A heart for the world.”
SIFE is involved with several programs including a Summer Entrepreneurship Academy, developing products to place in Walgreens stores, working with Junior Achievement and others to teach finance skills to K-12 students, place interns as consultants at major non-profit organizations and more. SIFE’s programs are focused on improving lives through the positive power of business.

Our goal is to improve the quality of life and the standard of living within our community through hands-on help of free enterprise.
Our Mission
The University of Michigan – Dearborn chapter of SIFE strives to improve the quality of life and the standards of living on our campus and within our neighborhoods through the hands-on application of free enterprise concepts; concurrently, our members gain marketable skills and valuable networking opportunities.
Impact
In just our first two years, SIFE has:
- Impacted 1,157 lives
- Gave away $40,000 in college scholarships
- Volunteered 3,702 hours
- Received 1 million media impressions
SIFE International
SIFE is an international organization that mobilizes university students around the world to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders.
More than 30,000 students participate in SIFE. They represent 1,500 universities in more than 45 countries.
Support is provided by hundreds of leading companies from around the world.
SIFE students form teams on their university campuses and develop community outreach projects that equip others with the knowledge and skills to achieve greater economic success.
The projects of every SIFE team are unique. Working with a faculty advisor and business advisory board, students apply business principles to develop projects that address the different needs of people in communities around the world.
SIFE students are positively affecting the lives of millions of people. As these students succeed at helping others, they develop stronger business and leadership skills as well as a commitment to the community and world around them.
An annual series of regional and national competitions provides a forum for teams to present the results of their projects, and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges. National champion teams advance to the prestigious SIFE World Cup. In addition to the community aspect of the program, SIFE’s leadership and career initiatives create meaningful opportunities for learning and exchange among the participants as well as the placement of students and alumni with companies in search of emerging talent.
SIFE represents the largest worldwide network of student, academic and business leaders. They share a passion for helping others achieve success and through SIFE, are experiencing the unique rewards of using their business skills to help create a better world.
